Carrie Underwood Kickboxing Workout

As per the Krav Maga Association of America, “Krav Maga is the official self defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces, and has been taught to hundreds of law enforcement agencies and thousands of civilians in the United States.  Krav Maga is a simple, effective self defense system that emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios.”

The name literally means ‘hand-to-hand combat’ in Hebrew, and Carrie utilizes this specialized form of training to vary her workouts and up her intensity.  The general principles of every Krav Maga workout include:

  • Counter attacking as soon as possible .
  • Targeting attacks to the body’s most vulnerable points such as the eyes, jaw, throat, groin, knee, etc.
  • Neutralizing the opponent as quickly as possible by responding with an unbroken stream of counter attacks and if necessary a take down/joint break.
  • Maintaining awareness of surroundings while dealing with the threat in order to look for escape routes, further attackers, objects that could be used to defend or help attack and so on.

In this way, Carrie is always on the ready and always moving, which makes it a fantastic cardio workout!  Krav Maga trainers and gyms today utilize various tools of training, not just bags and gloves.  Because the goal is to produced a well-rounded defender, a Krav Maga student may utilize kettlebells, situps, leg lifts, pushups, lunges, squats, and the like, in addition to kickboxing and martial arts kicking and punching (typically on a heavy bag or with target mitts as shown above) to encourage total body muscle recruitment.
